  FOAL  IN A TREE

This is what I found early one morning as I went to feed a pasture full of mares and foals. I noticed a mare standing off to herself by the creek that runs through the property. Upon further investigation I realized her 2 week old filly was nowhere in sight. As I moved closer to her she moved quickly towards the creek bank away from me. From previous experience I've learned that if a mare has been separated from her foal she will usually show you where it is. I calmly followed her fearing for the worst. To my surprise I found this:

The filly had somehow fallen in a hollow tree stump. Her little body fit just perfectly. The tree went straight down and then made an "L" shape. So, the baby was basically sitting on her rump with her legs out straight under the ground. I went back up to the barn to get help. We carefully pulled her out and she stood up and took off to mama. What an early morning surprise! We have nick-named her Alice, as in Wonderland. Down the rabbit hole (or should I say tree trunk) she went!

"ROUND THE TRACK HOE"

It is amazing the things you do when training colts. This track hoe was out in the middle of a field with nothing else around it. Of course we wanted to see how the horses would react.

Not only did they walk up to it, as you can see here, they willing and calmly walked between the bucket and the rest of the machine.
